I Keep Thinking of Russia, of Russia

Back in 1987 my first trip abroad was a school trip to Russia including time in both Leningrad (now St Petersberg) and Moscow. I’d wanted to visit Russia for years as a child and when the opportunity came up I begged my parents to let me go (two years of Christmas & Birthday presents I think) even though I didn’t know anyone else going on the trip. The visit was pre-Glasnost and Russia was still under Communist control and I’m really glad to have had been able to experience the country in that particular unique social and political climate. I do wish I’d taken a proper camera and taken more photos, the trip on the Trans-Siberian Express train at dusk and many other amazing memories are sadly only in my head.
