Fallen From Cliffs Down to The Beach

The other day I was reminded of a trip to Walton-on-the-Naze some years ago. The Naze is a headland that rises north above Walton and is particularly damaged by coastal erosion. The erosion is so bad that over the years the once inland pillbox bunkers overlooking the sea have now fallen down to the beach and now disappear under the waves at high tide.

I was lucky that the tide was low on the winter evening and I could have a look inside the dark concrete structures grown over with seaweed and sea creatures. As the sun finally set the horizon of the sea turned to an orange haze and the the Naze’s tower stood up against the darkening sky.

These photos were taken on my old, trusty Sony mobile phone…probably the best digital camera I’ve ever had even.
